Those Good Ol’ Hankies
Like letter-writing and cursive, hankies could easily be seen as something quickly fading. I still love a good hankie!
When I was a teen, I received $.10 for ironing my brother’s shirts, and I got $.01 for ironing his hankies.
A dime a shirt.
A penny a hankie.
Because I was happy with this salary, it hints at how old I am!
He carried a hankie in his back pocket—just like my dad.
There’s just something special about a hankie.
When I was a young girl, I remember people in church waving a hankie when they were blessed—and sometimes shouting, “Glory” at the same time the hankie came out.
In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, hankies were seen as a symbol of social status and were meant for display.
I don’t know if we’ll have hankies in heaven, but I’m sure we’ll be blessed and shouting, “Glory” a lot.
But one thing I know for sure:
We won’t need a hankie to wipe our tears, because in heaven, tears won’t
exist.
And that’s a hankie-waving moment!
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes.” (Revelation 21:4)
You are loved!
