Valentine
(Reminder: I’m doing an A to Z devotional blog.)
We usually associate the word Valentine with love. And though Valentine isn’t in the Bible, love is all over Scripture. We could say 1 Corinthians 13 is the apostle Paul’s Valentine.
It defines loves.
Jesus very life defined love. Check these descriptions:
“Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” (John 13:35 LB)
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.”
(John 15:9 NIV)
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:8 LB)
Vegetables are mentioned a lot in the Bible, but Veggie Tales are not. Though vegetables are important, no matter how we bake, cook, or grill them, they just don’t compare to chips and salsa.
Vine is another V-word we find throughout Scripture. My favorite is this:
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” (John 15:1-2 ESV)
Pruning is meticulous work. It takes precision, thought, and detail. I love it that God cares enough to invest the time and energy it takes to help me become more fruitful.
Valedictorian is nowhere in the Bible. I’m glad. I never held the honor of being a valedictorian or summa cum laude. I graduated Kum By Yah.
And I’m pretty sure the disciples sang that tune a few times around the campfire.
