So Dangerous It’s Illegal to Visit
Snake Island is located off the coast of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
This deadly paradise holds a terrifying secret:
It’s home to thousands of golden lancehead vipers—
one of the most venomous snakes on Earth.
Their venom is so potent it can melt human flesh, and there are up to
five snakes per square meter.
The entire island is a forbidden zone. The Brazilian government has banned all public access and allows only select scientists with special permits.
The last lighthouse keeper and his family tragically died when snakes
slithered through their windows.
So what’s the kill speed of a golden lancehead viper?
Under an hour.
Symptoms include pain,
swelling,
nausea,
vomiting,
internal bleeding,
and tissue death.
As horrific as Snake Island is . . . I can think of a place the Bible mentions that’s even more horrendous.
Hell.
Christ actually spoke more about hell during His time on earth than He did about heaven.
Whenever it’s mentioned in the Bible, it’s described as a place of tremendous pain, never-ending misery, and absolute separation from our loving Father.
Hell.
Scares.
Me.
And I’m glad it does.
If not—I may not take it seriously.
It’s more than just a curse word.
It’s an actual place where people who don’t know Christ
will spend eternity.
This is why we must consistently examine our hearts and pray:
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test my thoughts. 24 Point out anything you find in me that makes you sad, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” (Psalm 139:23-24 LB)
You are loved!
