No Expiration Date

Did you know there are five foods that never expire?

1. Honey has an indefinite shelf-life thanks to its sugar-dense composition,
with less than 20% of its makeup coming from water.

2. Pure vanilla doesn’t spoil thanks to its high alcohol content—over
time, it can actually develop a deeper flavor. But imitation vanilla has a
drastically shorter shelf-life.

3. Salt is actually a mineral, which is one reason it can enjoy an indefinite
stay in your pantry without spoiling. Plain salt can last forever, especially if
you keep it in a cool, dry place.

4. Sugar has a particularly sweet characteristic: It doesn’t really go “bad.” Granulated sugars are so inhospitable for bacteria that they’re often the primary ingredient used to preserve jellies, jams, and canned fruits.

5. Vinegar always smells pretty potent, so it may be hard to use the old- fashioned sniff test to guess its quality. But luckily, you don’t have to, because vinegar doesn’t expire.

White rice can last between 25 and 30 years.

I’m grateful to know there are a few items I’m able to keep in my pantry without worrying about the expiration date!

I’m extremely grateful that GOD never expires! In fact, the book of James tells us just how consistent He is:

“ . . . He shines forever without change or shadow.” (James 1:17 LB)

And check out what Isaiah has to say:

“The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God shall stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8 LB)

And I love this Old Testament passage that gives me comfort:

“For I am the Lord—I do not change.” (Malachi 3:6 LB)

This new year, thank God for being unchanging, dependable, trustworthy,
forever-the-same.

You are loved.
