Special Mail

Melbourne, Australia, gave email addresses to 70,000 trees.
It started as creative problem-solving.

What was the problem?
Lots of trees in Melbourne had dangerous branches that needed to be trimmed, along with other issues.

In 2013, city officials assigned ID numbers and email addresses to 70,000 problem trees so people could report issues.

Unexpectedly, people began writing their favorite trees whimsical letters:

“I have exams coming up and I should be busy studying,” one letter says. “You don’t have exams because you’re a tree. There’s not much more to talk about as we don’t have a lot in common, but I’m glad we’re in this together.”

That letter, addressed to Green Leaf Elm, Tree ID 1022165, even received a response: “I hope you do well in your exams. Research has shown that nature can influence the way people learn in a positive way, so I hope I inspire your learning.”

The initiative’s website features a map of every tree as well as links to their email addresses. The responses to tree emails are written by the employees at the City of Melbourne, and as on 2018, the trees received more than 4,000 emails from all over
the world.

Trees in Melbourne aren’t the only ones who receive special messages. YOU have some super-important emails as well.

Your emails are found in the Bible.

Have you read your mail?
Have you read your mail in its entirety?

If you’ve never read the entire Bible, please strive to do that. Just three chapters each day—and five on Sundays—will take you through God’s Word in one year.

“When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty.” (Jeremiah 15:16 NIV)

You are so loved!
