The Main Thing

If you’ve ever taken a journalism class, or worked on a newspaper or even
a magazine, you may have seen this Latin phrase:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

And if you’re wondering what this phrase means . . .
It means nothing.

That’s right.
Although this is Latin, these letters don’t actually form literal words.
Huh?!?

These scrambled letters are used to insert as “place holders” in a newspaper or magazine page. In other words, the actual article hasn’t been written yet, but these phrases hold their spot on the page.

For example, the designer may want this story to be three columns wide and to be continued on another half page somewhere else in the paper or magazine.

So when others view this rough copy, their eyes aren’t distracted by English words—they’re automatically focused only on the design itself.

They can then give input on design options; maybe they don’t want the article to be split. Perhaps they want smaller type and more columns to fit it all on one page, etc.

I like the purpose this serves: To stay focused on the main thing.

Spiritually, this is exactly what God desires from us.
Job pressures, family responsibilities, finances, etc. can often distract us
from keeping Jesus as the main thing.

Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things. (Matthew 6:33 GNT)

You are loved!
