The apostle Paul says this in 1 Corinthians 13 about love:
“Love never gives up.”
Sometimes I wonder if I’m close to giving up on Bentley Boy. (If you read
last week’s devotional, you know my 1-year-old Schnauzer locked me out
of my car.)
Oh, I’m kidding. I’d never give up on Bentley. I love him.
I think.
No, I do.
Well . . .
Love can be fickle, can’t it! And there are all kinds of love.
I love Mexican food, a crisp fall day, the smell of new tennis shoes,
Coca-Cola, Sharpies, a clean house, going to the dog park. . . .
But that’s not the kind of love the apostle Paul is talking about.
There’s also romantic love. Check out these Christian pick-up lines:
“I was reading the book of Numbers the other day and realized I don’t have yours.”
“The Bible says to ‘give drink to those who are thirsty, and feed the hungry’; so how about dinner tonight?”
“What’s your name and number so I can add you to my prayer list?”
“Is your name Faith? Cause you’re the substance of things I’ve hoped for.”
But that’s not the kind of love the apostle Paul is talking about, either.
He’s talking about AGAPE love. God’s love. A love that says, “I love you,
period.”
Wow. THAT’S how I want to love.
I want to live and love like Jesus.
What if we Christians really . . . truly . . . actually . . . genuinely
loved like that? We just might have a world-wide revival!
