We find the number 4, used in interesting ways inside Scripture.
• The Old Testament is divided into 4 parts:
1. Pentateuch (the Torah)
2. The historical books
3. The “wisdom” books
4. The prophets.
• We have 4 New Testament Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) that give us a close view of Jesus and His time on earth.
• On day 4 of Creation, God made the sun, moon, and stars.
• Revelation 4:6-8 mentions the 4 living creatures
(1) Lion (2) Ox (3) Man (4) eagle
These 4 living creatures also tie into the 4 Gospels:
In Matthew, Jesus is portrayed as the Lion and King.
Mark shows Jesus as the Ox and servant. In Luke, we see Jesus as a
Man, and in John, He’s seen as the Eagle.
Allow me to recap this: These 4 portrayals of Christ are completely accurate. He defines Himself as the King of kings and Lord of lords in Matthew. But He also came to serve (an ox is an animal whose purpose is to serve) in the Gospel of Mark. We see Christ in Luke’s Gospel as One who willingly became a man—a human being who left the perfection of heaven and chose to enter our world. And John portrays Him as the Eagle—a worldwide symbol of power and One who is above all.
These 4 illustrations of Christ are also described in the Old Testament by the prophet Ezekiel (see Ezekiel 1:10).
There are some really yummy 4-ingredient recipes that unfortunately aren’t included in Scripture. But here’s one I think you’ll enjoy:
Garlic Toast Pizza
Ingredients:
• 1 package of frozen garlic Texas toast
• ½ cup pizza sauce
• 1 package of pepperoni (3 ½ oz)
• 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Directions:
• Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees.
• Spread toast with pizza sauce.
• Top with pepperoni and cheese.
• Bake until cheese is melted.
