The God who Calls
God doesn’t always call those who are equipped. But He always equips those He calls.
In Exodus 3, Moses gives several excuses—in the form of questions—as to why he’s not qualified to answer God’s call to be the one who leads the Israelites out of Egypt and into Canaan—the Promised Land.
When Moses asks God, “Whom shall I say sent me?” God’s response is “Tell them I AM sent you.”
But seriously . . . what does that mean?
What kind of God are You?
He is the self-existent One who always was, always is and always will be.
He calls Himself “I AM.”
If we push the fast-forward button in the Bible, we see that Jesus takes the name “I AM” and completes it:
“I am the bread of life.”
“I am the light of the world.”
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
Moses continues with another excuse:
“O Lord, I’m just not a good speaker. I never have been . . . for I have a speech impediment.” (Exodus 4:10 LB)
We’re seeing that Moses has completely missed the message of God’s name and God’s miraculous power.
“I AM” is all that we need in every circumstance of life!
By describing Himself this way, God is saying, “Moses, this is not about YOU and your LACK of power. It’s all about ME and MY
predominant,
surpassing, all-sufficient,
ever-abundant,
never-ceasing power.”
If we look at it through this lens, it really doesn’t matter what we can’t do.
All that matters is that God CAN.
God can do anything!
So when He calls us to do something, it’s Him working through us to
accomplish His will.
Whew.
That eliminates the pressure.
I don’t have to be good enough.
Smart enough.
Talented enough.
Anything enough.
All I have to be is available.
He’ll do the rest.
So my answer is: Yes, Lord.
Anything.
Any time.
Anywhere.
