GOD
God is mentioned several times in the Bible . . . and of course this makes
sense, because after all it is His book.
But God isn’t always referred to as God. Sometimes He’s referred to as:
• Jehovah Jireh (The Lord will provide)
• Elohim (God)
• Yahweh (Lord, Jehovah)
• El Elyon (The Most High God)
• Jehovah Shalom (The Lord is Peace)
• El Qanna (Jealous God)
• Adonai (Lord, Master)
• El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty)
Today, we sometimes hear casual references to God as “the Man upstairs,” “Big Guy” or “Sky Daddy.”
I don’t think God relates to or even likes these casual names. He is not
casual. He is Almighty. Omniscient. Holy. Sovereign. Omnipotent.
Sadly, many people today take God’s name in vain. It’s almost impossible
to watch a TV show today without hearing, “OMG” uttered by one of the
characters. That’s taking His holy name in vain. And it’s something that
not only angers Him . . . but also something that breaks His heart.
My favorite name for God is Father.
I’m so glad He IS my Father.
Another G word in the Bible is GATE. And guess what? Jesus is the
only gate that leads to Father God. (See John 14:6.)
Thoughts?
Personal Update: Many of you know I suffered a several spiral break of
my femur from hip to knee. I’ll be in physical therapy for almost a full year.
But God is so faithful!
I’m making progress. I’m transitioning from a walker to a cane, and last
week I even got to teach Sunday school at my church.
I’ve had to cancel/rearrange my spring travel/speaking schedule and focus
on healing. But my surgeon thinks I’ll be able to keep my summer speaking
opportunities.
