God: Our Provider

I was 16 and a high school junior. My youth pastor in OKC had planned a missions trip for us to Uvalde, TX. The cost was $32. (Yes, this was back in the olden days when gas was probably $1 a gallon!)

I’d been praying about going. I wanted to go. But $32 then was an unreachable goal for me. I don’t remember all the details, but I think my parents had pitched in some, and I had added my babysitting money to the pot, but I was still short $13. And even that seemed insurmountable!

On my walk to the bus stop that morning, I prayed.

“God, if it’s Your will for me to go, I need You to provide. I just don’t have any more money. And because the deadline for the money is this week, I’m out of time. Please help me.”

I rode the bus to school wondering about the prayer I’d just prayed. That afternoon when I got home, I saw an envelope in our mailbox addressed to me. I had written a poem for Bread—our denomination’s youth magazine. And inside the envelope was a check for $13!

I was acutely aware of God’s miraculous provision—
and in His perfect timing!
And I was also excited to be getting something published.
Talk about a faith booster!
God was my Provider.

Guess what—He’s still providing.
Not just for me . . . but for all of us who trust Him with our needs.

Spend some time today thanking Him for being your Provider.

“And it is he who will supply all your needs from his riches in glory
because of what Christ Jesus has done for us.” (Philippians 4:19 LB)

Love,
Susie
