L

Lois

(Reminder: I’m doing an A to Z devotional blog.)

She’s only mentioned once in Scripture, but she left an incredible heritage for her grandson, Timothy.

“I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.” (2 Timothy 1:15 ESV)

Did you catch the description of her faith? She had sincere faith. And because of her spiritual sincerity—her daughter, Eunice, and her grandson, Timothy—couldn’t help but notice and want that for themselves.

Sincere faith requires action.
It’s something we develop as we actively seek God, read His Word, pray and surround ourselves with other believers.

Sincere faith isn’t developed with haphazard desire.

“Love the Lord with all of your heart and with all of your soul and with all of your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5)

We don’t attain it flippantly.
We desire it with our entire being.
And our actions prove it.

We attend church consistently.
We read the Bible consistently.
We consistently talk about the Lord with others.

There’s a theme here, isn’t there?
Consistency.
This is one of the greatest elements
in developing sincere faith.

Though Lois is mentioned only one time in the Bible, she made an incredible spiritual investment in her grandson, Timothy, who was discipled by the apostle Paul and pastored the Ephesus church.

Linebacker isn’t found anywhere in the Bible. But I can imagine the disciples learning how to play football from Bobby Wagner, Seattle Seahawks.

Another L word I can’t find in Scripture is Lunchables. These would have come in really handy at the feeding of the 5,000. But if the disciples would’ve had Lunchables, we would have missed the marvelous miracle of what Jesus did with just a few fish and some bread. I guess some things are better left out of the Bible and in the grocery store.
